Choosing a Church – Welcome Home!

To arrange for your first visit to Bethel, please email us at welcome@bethelaurora.org or call our New Visitors Hotline: 303-364-2245.

Choosing a church is an important decision in your life. We know – we’ve been there, too. But, along the way to making this important decision, there can be some potential pitfalls: Some churches have damaging, works-centered belief systems. That means they think you must earn God’s love by doing good works. Some churches teach a so-called, prosperity gospel – you may have heard them use slogans such as, “Name it and claim it!” Some churches place an overriding emphasis on stewardship, above all else. Some churches have untrained clergy – sincere individuals, no doubt, but lacking in any formal ministerial education. Who knows what such persons might one day decide, completely on their own? Some churches are not a part of any denomination – who knows where their beliefs come from and what those beliefs are? Some churches severely limit the role of women in ministry. Some churches are centered around a person who is a power figure, an individual whose decisions are absolute and unquestioned. Some so-called churches are actually cults – they have secret practices and teachings that are not exposed to public view. Sounds scary, doesn’t it?

Bethel Lutheran Church is different from all of this. In contrast, our faith life is centered around God’s love and grace, freely given to us through Jesus Christ. We very much appreciate whatever offerings you may be able to give based on your individual circumstances. Our pastors are well educated and screened – seminary graduates whose training includes field experience in churches and other ministries. Bethel Lutheran Church itself is a ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Our Lutheran theology is based upon the Holy Bible and has a rich, five-hundred-year history that is well-accepted within mainstream Christianity. We ordain both men and women as pastors, and both ordained men and women are eligible to be elected as bishops. All of our worship services and congregational meetings are open to the public, although only members may vote during congregational meetings. Our church is run according to our constitution and bylaws and our congregational meetings follow Robert’s Rules of Order (parliamentary procedure). Our Senior Leadership Team is democratically elected by majority vote from among our members. We have no secret practices or teachings. In fact, the Bible, the ecumenical creeds, and the confessions of the Lutheran Church, which state what Lutherans believe, are freely published and widely available to scholars, theologians, and interested members of the public. If you are interested in this, please reference the following: the Holy Bible, the Apostles’ Creed, the Nicene Creed, the Athanasian Creed, and the Book of Concord. Isn’t it a relief to know these things about us?

But wait! We have even more to offer: To better serve you, we offer both traditional and contemporary worship services that feature our praise teams: Grace Flows Down and Sounds of Joy – as well as our choirs and bell choirs. Our music is exciting and up beat. Our attractive, yet functional, facilities are handicapped accessible and handicapped parking is available. We have an excellent, amplified sound system. We practice open Communion – you will not be refused just because you are not a member of Bethel. We are a diverse congregation that welcomes all people, consistent with our church’s Vision Statement. We are active in many community outreach efforts, including Bethel Christian School. We also have many exciting activities for our members and visitors, as you can see by looking at our Calendar of  Events. Finally, as we enter into the twenty-first century, we are forward-thinking in our use of technology for the benefit of our visitors and members alike.

If this sounds like what you’ve been looking for – welcome home!
We look forward to seeing you soon at Bethel.
