The Adult English as a Second Language program at Bethel was started in October 22, 2018, with two teachers and 15 volunteers from the church as conversation partners or childcare workers. During the first five sessions (Fall 2018 through Winter 2020), a total of 108 adults registered and attended one or more classes, 30 children were enrolled in childcare and 29 volunteers from the church & community were conversation partners or worked in childcare. The students came from Belarus, Burma, Columbia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Honduras, Ivory Coast, Japan, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela.
Unfortunately, due to bad weather and COVID-19 the Winter session in 2020 had to be cut short and the Spring session canceled.
We hope to be able to start this program again soon. Our plan will be to offer classes every Monday evening for eight weeks from 6:15PM to 8:00PM. We will send up-dated information to the local schools, and via flyers in the neighborhood as soon as we are given permission to begin again. Information will also be posted on the sign outside the church and on the website.
